Halloween Special

I've been reading Halloween books for the past couple of weeks and although lots of new books have come out, I still enjoy reading some of the classics to the kids.

The Hallo-Wiener by Dav Pilkey, which is the story of a little dachshund, who saves the day even though other dogs laugh at his shape and costume is a favorite. The kids love performing a readers theater of the story afterwards. Here's a copy of the script: http://www.timelessteacherstuff.com/readerstheater/Hallowiener.html

I love reading The Witches' Supermarket by Susan Meddaugh, The Vanishing Pumpkin by Tony Johnston, and The Big Pumpkin by Erika Silverman.  With so many pumpkin stories, I usually have kids try out some pumpkin making activities on ABCYA (http://www.abcya.com). After reading The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything by Linda Williams, kindergartners try their hand at making a scarecrow on Highlights Kids (http://www.highlightskids.com/flash/build-scarecrow).

Here's my Halloween storytime program:

If you’re a ghost and you know it, just say BOO!
If you’re a skeleton and you know it, Shake your bones……
If you love Halloween and you know it, clap your hands…….
If you’re a black cat and you know it, say MEOW……
